Dear Community Psychologists, Researchers, and Conference Attendees,
On behalf of the 2018 Midwest ECO Planning Coordinators and the UIC Community and Prevention Faculty - we thank you for attending the 42nd Annual Midwest ECO Conference on October 26 - 27, 2018 at the University of Illinois at Chicago. We had a remarkable turnout of over 200 attendees!
In order to make next year’s conference even more successful, we request that you fill out this post-event evaluation survey. We thank you in advance for your comments and suggestions! We will pass this information to next year’s planning committee to ensure the 2019 Midwest ECO conference is met with even more success.
We hope that you found the conference informative and worthwhile. The primary goal of this conference was to bring together researchers, practitioners, and students conducting research on transforming communities and changing lives. We believe that our diverse and dynamic group of speakers, panelists, and presenters provided in-depth insight, as well as, actionable and practical tools on how this may look at a variety of levels as well as how we can further promote change. Dr. Yolanda Suarez-Balcazar addressed in her keynote the importance of using theory to inform research for the purpose of improving the lives of people in marginalized communities. Additionally, we learned about participatory action research and what it means to truly engage community partners in developing culturally informed programs that address pressing problems. We had a panel including representatives from The Ounce, Cure Violence, and The Saint Anthony Hospital Community Wellness Program, that are currently engaging in multiple modes of research and action. They were able to share their experiences with us, as well as issues and suggestions to further improve collaborative research with our communities.
You helped to make this event a great success and your enthusiasm and positive spirit helped make our time both productive and fun!! We wish you all the best and hope that you continue to be engaged with your community. Stay tuned for next years event!
